Learn how to brew rose green tea for a fragrant, floral cup. Follow these simple steps to balance delicate green tea with rose petals.
Quick answer
Brew rose green tea by steeping 1 teaspoon of leaves in water at 175°F for 2–3 minutes. This preserves the delicate floral notes without bitterness.
Why water temperature matters
Green tea leaves are sensitive to high heat. Water above 185°F can scorch them, releasing bitter tannins and muting the rose fragrance. Sticking to 170–180°F keeps the brew smooth and floral.
Choosing your rose green tea
The quality of both the green tea base and the rose petals affects the cup. Darjeeling green tea, with its high-altitude cultivation, provides a light, grassy canvas that lets rose shine without overpowering.
Steps to brew rose green tea
- Heat the water: Bring fresh, filtered water to 170–180°F (77–82°C). If you don't have a thermometer, let boiling water sit for 1 minute before pouring. Water that's too hot will ruin the floral taste. Err on the cooler side.
- Measure the leaves: Use 1 teaspoon (about 2–3 grams) of rose green tea per 8-ounce cup. Adjust for a stronger or lighter brew. Overcrowding the leaves leads to bitterness. Stick to 1 teaspoon per cup.
- Steep and serve: Pour the heated water over the leaves and steep for 2–3 minutes. Strain or remove the leaves before drinking. The rose petals will unfurl and release their fragrance. Steeping longer than 3 minutes extracts bitterness. Set a timer.
About this tea
- Rose green tea: This rose green tea blends Darjeeling green tea with rose petals. The green tea is cultivated from a Chinese tea bush in Darjeeling at over 3,000 ft above sea level, said to be rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The high-altitude Darjeeling base provides a delicate, floral-friendly profile that won't compete with the rose aroma.
